Corporate leaders and investors have been slow to treat violence against women as a major risk and mitigate accordingly.

Yet gender-based violence is a widespread and pernicious issue that crosses cultural and socioeconomic boundaries and the cumulative costs are staggering, says Sweef Capital Managing Director Jennifer Buckley. The violence ranges from aggressive language and financial coercion to physical injury and sexual assault, at work and at home. Tia Subramanian, Gender-based Violence Program Director at Criterion Institute is part of global efforts to raise awareness among investors about the costly social, financial and economic tolls of violence against women and other vulnerable groups.
