Dear friends and partners of Sweef Capital,

2021 has been a transforming year for Sweef Capital, highlighted by our transition to becoming a fully independent private equity firm anchored in Southeast Asia.

Reflecting on our journey thus far pioneering impact investing and gender lens investing in Southeast Asia, we would like to share with you a brief recap of our year below and keep you updated on our activities and development.

2021 HIGHLIGHTS

1. Completion and Official Launch of Sweef Capital

Sweef Capital was established in July 2021 following the spin-out of the Southeast Asian team from our former parent. This process was completed with the support of our Danish pension fund partner who continued with its commitment to anchoring the first close of the SWEEF, the flagship US$100 million Southeast Asian gender lens fund.

Since its launch, the team has been focusing on building partnerships with regional and global investment partners as well as communicating the new branding to the local entrepreneur communities across Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

2. Established Investment Team with Deep Experience

Sweef Capital and the SWEEF fund benefited from the continuity of an experienced Southeast Asian investment team under the leadership of Jennifer Buckley, the former leader of GE Capital European private equity business and later CIO for its Asia-Pacific operations. The firm was enhanced post-spin-out through the knowledge and networks of its newly constituted Sweef Capital Board of Advisors, and the capacity to operate as a regionally grounded investment firm.

This put Sweef Capital in a strong position to seize new opportunities in a rapidly changing regional landscape.

3. Develop Gender ROI™ Toolkit to Measure Diversity and Gender Equality

Leveraging on our expertise and experience over the past 3 years in the building and applying the team’s gender diagnostic, measurement and performance approach, Sweef Capital has developed its second-generation gender diversity tool, the Gender ROI™. In collaboration with its global partners, the Gender ROI™ is centered on strategic levers of gender diversity adopted through different enterprise dimensions of leadership, workforce, value chains, and society, and demonstrated through the pillar outcomes of Resilience, Opportunities, and Inclusion.

  Jennifer Buckley was selected as the 2nd runner-up in the Leadership Commitment category at the 2021 Regional Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards ceremony.

• Sweef Capital named one of the 2021 Future 40: Impact Investment Funds by Real Deals and Private Equity Recruitment

• Sweef Capital named by PEI as a Top 30 Innovators in ESG and Impact (PEI Responsible Investment Feb 2021).
