A new program upskilling women entrepreneurs to take advantage of opportunities in Indonesia’s green economy has been launched by Sweef Capital.
Women entrepreneurs play a critical role in Indonesia’s economy, with about two thirds of micro, small and medium enterprises managed by women. However their businesses are often smaller than those of their male counterparts, with less access to the networks, advice and capital they need to grow.
The KINETIK Sweef Entrepreneurs Program will address this by providing training to 100 small businesses, ranging from business strategy, brand identity, and market research to financial management, diversity and impact measurement.
Up to 20 women entrepreneurs will be selected from the program to be KINETIK Sweef Fellows. They will receive specialised support and access to consulting services to accelerate the growth of their businesses over the next three years.
The KINETIK Sweef Entrepreneurs Program was launched on March 14 at an event in Jakarta hosted by the Australian Embassy.
Australian Chargé d’Affaires to Indonesia Gita Kamath said unlocking the potential of women entrepreneurs was critical for Indonesia to achieve its ambitious economic growth targets.
“We are delighted to help women entrepreneurs in the green economy thrive and contribute to the economic prosperity of Indonesia,” she said.
Women entrepreneurs are already spurring innovation across all areas of Indonesia’s green economy, which includes renewable energy, electric vehicles, waste management and climate finance.
Sweef Capital Managing Director, Ms Jennifer Buckley said it was a great honour to work on such a pivotal initiative to support Indonesia’s economic growth.
“The research is clear: supporting women to grow their businesses builds economic resilience and also fuels innovation, job creation and sustainable enterprises,” she said. “With the right support, these talented entrepreneurs can launch novel solutions and strengthen critical infrastructure and supply chains.”
